The Adirondack chair itself was first conceived in 1903 by a man named Thomas Lee. He was working on outdoor chairs for his summer house in the Adirondacks, and built several prototypes for his family and friends, and called it the Westport plank chair.

However, there are some things to remember when it comes to maintaining polyethylene furniture: Never place hot items, such as cooking dishes or candles, on poly furniture. Remember, it’s plastic. Fire and heat will melt it. Don’t forget to clean your furniture! You don’t need to do it every week, but plan to clean it several times a year to prevent minor stains from setting in. A good rule of thumb is to clean your furniture once each season — winter, spring, summer and fall. Avoid placing flowerpots or other items that could stain on poly furniture.

Bottom line, these are nice looking chairs, high quality, and the price is hard to beat. If you are willing to do the work of assembling them, and have the proper tools, I highly recommend these chairs. I would warn anyone that thinks they can do this without a drill to think twice. They provide self driving wood screws and you can drive them in with a screwdriver, but there are probably 50 or so screws per chair... your arm will get tired! Buy this chair, and feel good about the price!
